Scientific paper

A Rayleigh-Boltzmann Fe lidar has been deployed at Rothera station, Antarctica (68S, 68W) to observe temperature, Fe concentration and mesospheric aerosols during the Austral summer season of 2003/2003. The summer temperatures will be presented and compared with past rocket flights and those inferred from PMSE measurements. The occurrence frequency of Polar Mesospheric Clouds will also be presented as will their relationship to the local dynamics and mesospheric iron. Finally, the frequency, brightness and altitude of the PMC observed from this peninsula station will be contrasted to those observed in previous years from the South Pole.
