Investigations related to the area of radio astronomy were first started in West Germany in 1956. A 25-m radio telescope located on a mountain near Muenstereifel in North Rhine-Westphalia, West Germany, was employed in these investigations. The instrument was also used in the study of general questions of radar technology. The employment of the telescope made it possible to observe, for the first time, also advancing fronts of thunderstorms. It is pointed out that a number of new electronic devices were developed for the 25-m radio telescope. This telescope was very useful in connection with test work related to the development of 100-m telescope in West Germany. In a review of the astronomical investigations conducted with the telescope on the 'Stockert', attention is given to studies of the cloud structure of hydrogen in space, extragalactic sources, and systematic surveys related to the determination of the distribution of sources emitting at a wavelength of 11 cm or 20 cm.
