The authors present photometric observations of GQ Mus at quiescence which reveal a strong orbital modulation. They also discuss recent spectroscopic observations which reveal a very short orbital period (85 min) phased with the photometric period. On the basis of the results the authors argue that the system belongs to the class of magnetized cataclysmic variables.
