Solar flares are most often defined in terms of the x-ray component but they often have an EUV component as well. Solar EUV flares can have affects on the thermosphere and ionosphere by heating and enhanced ionization of the atmosphere. Observations of EUV flares have been made with the SOHO Solar EUV Monitor since 1996. Observations of the EUV flare effects have been made by several instruments. A description of solar EUV flares and their correlation with solar x-ray flares will be presented. The response of the atmosphere to solar EUV flares, as represented by a coupled thermosphere-ionosphere model, will also be discussed and the results will be compared with observations.
