It is suggested that the majority of the shell and supershell formations typical of neutral hydrogen's galactic distribution reflect a normal, stratified spiral structure rather than structures produced by the impacts of supernova remnants or stellar wind on the interstellar medium. If this interpretation is correct, the observed profiles of the H I radio line from the shells would be determined by differential galactic rotation.
