A procedure for measuring the position of comets from photographs is described that requires only a photographic telescope, a measuring microscope, a star atlas and catalog, and a programmable calculator or computer. Instructions are given on how to choose the comparison stars, make the measurement, and gather the data. Also discussed are proper motion corrections, determinations of the focal length, and standard coordinates.
