A force-free, uniformly twisted magnetic rope is considered in which the radius of each magnetic surface varies along the axis of symmetry. This configuration is obtained as the solution of a nonlinear differential equation describing a force-free magnetic field. The main properties of this force-free model are: (1) the magnetic field in a sunspot and above it is weakly twisted, so that each field line makes only half a turn on the path between sunspots; (2) the total flux of the longitudinal field is finite, Phi = const, while the total longitudinal current equals zero, since the current density changes sign at one of the magnetic surfaces (alpha = 0); (3) the surface alpha = 0 is hydrodynamically stable and can play the role of the natural boundary of the sunspot; (4) the condition of similarity of the magnetic structure can be obtained formally as a consequence of two conditions, the uniformity of field twisting and the force-free character of the field. The radial and vertical magnetic field distributions in a sunspot obtained in the report agree well with observational data.
