Widely extended, weak OH emission has been observed at 1720 MHz in 53
galactic clouds whose sizes are those of giant molecular clouds and
whose distribution appears confined to two inner spiral arms.
Collisional pumping of the OH at low (15-40 K) temperatures seems the
most likely excitation mechanism.
