Variations in the light curves and in the period of the eclipsing binary V471 Tau are investigated. It is found that the decrease in the period of the system slows down, and the mean brightness of the system has been increasing and is greater at the longer wavelength. The seven year increase in brightness is estimated at 0.15 mag in B, and 0.18 mag in V bands, indicating that the color of the system was about 0.03 mag redder in 1980 than 1973. The distorting effects on the light curves of some detached binaries are explained by starspot activity, and the brightening of the system may arise from the decreased chromospheric activity, or from the matter around the system.
