The integrated UBV colors of synthetic clusters older than 1 billion years is computed for the chemical compositions: Y equals 0.30, Z equals 0.0001 and Y plus 0.30, Z equals 0.01. The contribution of Main Sequence, subgiant, red giant and horizontal branch stars is taken into account. It is shown that the integrated colors are affected by changes in metal abundance, and consequently broad-band colors are able to discriminate between metal-rich and metal deficient clusters for some ages and chemical compositions. Old clusters in LMC and SMC are studied in terms of color calibrations, and it is found that clusters with Z equals 0.01 and time greater than 5 billion years are lacking. Implications of results on the chemical history of the two galaxies is discussed.
