The relative importance of the combined effects of rotation and magnetic fields on the acceleration of matter in jets is investigated, together with the relative importance of the gas pressure and the gravitational field of the source on the flow and the position of three critical points (Alfven, slow, and fast magnetosonic), using a quasi-one-dimensional MHD model developed for narrow jets. The model allows both a 'pressure confinement' and/or a 'magnetically assisted confinement,' implying that the gas pressure and the centrifugal pressure are balanced by an external medium and/or the tension of the 'frozen-in' magnetic-field lines. The results of the model confirm the results and conclusions of the Koupelis and Van Horn (1989) model, in which the gas pressure, the gravitational field of the source, and the r-component of the velocity and magnetic field were set equal to zero.
