The present analytical examination of the free-convection and mass-transfer flow in the Stokes problem for an infinite vertical plate takes the Soret thermal diffusion effect into account, and proceeds by using the Laplace transform technique to obtain the velocity and skin friction expressions. It is found that as the Soret number increases, the skin friction decreases in the case of plate heating, while the opposite occurs in the case of plate cooling. While the presence of the Soret number reduces skin-friction for the heated plate, a reversal of the phenomenon follows the plate's cooling.
