We attempt to determine the pattern speed of NGC 1398, a large, isolated barred spiral galaxy, using 21-cm observations and the location of prominent morphological features. The HI velocity field coupled with the location of resonance rings should make the determination of the corotation radius and pattern speed possible. In addition, we believe it useful to attempt to apply current models to a specific, well-behaved system. HI data have been used to provide constraints on gas and stellar dynamical models of barred galaxies; however, many areas concerning the properties of such systems are still poorly understood. Our understanding tends to be qualitative; generic models have been created but it is proving difficult to reproduce self-consistently the observations of specific systems. More observational data are needed at the fine scale offered by contemporary models. The observations discussed here are presented with this goal in mind.
