Visual Binaries: Masses
Scientific paper
The subject of the study is a sample from the Gliese-Jahreiß catalogue containing 77 visual binaries. Their total masses are determined both statistically (by using the parallaxes, apparent magnitudes and spectra from the catalogue) and dynamically (by using the orbital data). The authors find that the agreement between the total masses determined in these two different ways is largely satisfactory.
