Cepheids: Pulsations, Pulsations: Numerical Methods

A nonlinear differential equation arises in the modelling of stellar pulsation as a limit cycle phenomenon. The class of stars supposedly described by this equation are called cepheid variables. The pulsation of these stars occurs primarily in the radial direction and corresponds to actual radial oscillations of the stellar diameter. The mechanism responsible for this to take place involves a complex interaction among the nuclear energy generating processes, mass transport variations in the temperature and various acoustical modes of the star.
