We have calculated electron collisional excitation strengths for all electric dipole forbidden, semiforbidden, and allowed transitions among the lowest 17 LS states 3s23p2 3P, 1D, 1S, 3s3p3 5So, 3Do, 3Po, 1Po, 3So, 1Do, 3s23p3d 1Do, 3Fo, 3Po, 3Do, 1Fo, 1Po, and 3s23p4s 3Po, 1Po of S III using the R-matrix method. These S III states are represented by fairly extensive configuration-interaction wave functions that yield excited state energies in close agreement with recent laboratory measurements. Rydberg series of resonances converging to the excited state thresholds are explicitly included in the scattering calculation. The effective collision strengths are determined assuming Maxwellian distribution of electron energies. These are listed over a wide temperature range ([0.5--10] x 104 K) and compared, where possible, with other available calculations.
