We carry out calculations of the influence of the hard X-ray source 1E 1740.7-2942 on the dense molecular cloud in which it may be embedded. From the thermal, chemical, and ionization structure, we obtain the spatial distribution of the HCO+ 1--0 emission line. It matches the interferometric observations of the line well and supports the view of Phillips & Lazio that the source lies within the cloud near to its eastern edge. The intensity profiles of the 3--2 and 4--3 transitions of HCO+ are given. Their observation would provide further information on the location of the source. The abundances and spatial distribution of other molecular species are predicted.
