The color-magnitude diagram of the dwarf spheroidal galaxy in Draco is redetermined, and forms the basis of a discussion of the evolutionary status of stars in this distant, metal-poor satellite of the Galaxy. Besides photoelectric photometry for 39 stars and precise photographic photometry for 514 stars to V approximately 21 m, membership probabilities derived from stars' relative proper motions, and a reddening determination from uvby-H beta photometry of early-type foreground stars have been obtained. The detailed spectrophotometry of Draco giants by Zinn (1978 Astrophys. J 255, 790) has also been rediscussed in the light of the new data. A new technique for deriving precise photographic magnitude indices from scans of photographic plates with a PDS microdensitometer was developed and is described.
