Photoelectric observations of U Cep were obtained to determine times of minimum light for twelve eclipses between August 1975 and September 1977. Two minima in 1976 were distorted in the sense that the ingress halves of the light curves were displaced toward later times, producing anomalously late times of minimum light. This distortion is attributed to luminous matter above the trailing hemisphere of the hotter component, and the physical conditions in this matter are discussed.
