Many high energy sources, such as black hole binaries and active galactic nuclei, are inherently variable and transient. Study of these sources requires X-ray and hard X-ray imaging with very large field of view. We briefly discuss the impetus for future all-sky imaging survey observations, including recent observations with the current generation of high-energy all-sky monitors.
