Spectroscopy and direct photographs of a trio of southern galaxies are presented, two of which are morphologically peculiar and have emission features in their nuclear spectra. The 'Carafe', the largest of the three, has an eccentrically located, heavily obscured nucleus with a type-2 Seyfert spectrum and is surrounded by a large, faint, off-center ring. A detailed physical analysis of the nuclear spectrum is not practicable because of the uncertain reddening. The galaxy may be a steep-spectrum radio source; observations at 2, 6, and 76 cm are given. The companion galaxy NGC 1598 appears to have linear jets projecting from its nucleus, possibly normal to the plane of the spiral arms.
