Observations at JHKL are presented for 38 late-type supergiants in the
Magellanic Clouds. These are discussed in terms of the J-H, H-K, and
J-K, bolometric magnitude diagrams. The sample includes irregular,
long-period, and Shapley-Nail variables. The usefulness of the brightest
red supergiants as extragalactic distance indicators is discussed.
