Global foF2 data from 42 ionosonde stations are analyzed for the period June 15-18, 1965 in an effort to study global occurrences of positive ionospheric storms. Two types of positive storms were identified. The positive storms which are thought to be of thermospheric origin first appear in equatorward fronts of the spreading negative regions. Then, positive regions in both hemispheres move equatorward synchronously with the negative storms and merge near the magnetic equator, producing the equatorial positive region.
