Available photometric observations of 23 extragalactic type II supernovae are analyzed. Two basic light-curve shapes are delineated; the first (applicable to two-thirds of the sample) is characterized by a plateau at intermediate phase, while the second exhibits an almost linear decline. Average curves are also obtained for the intrinsic U-B and B-V color indices. Several peculiar cases are identified, including a number of unusual objects of types III and IV. A mean absolute B magnitude of -16.45 is determined for the type II supernovae. It is shown that late-type spiral galaxies with strong arm populations are by far the main producers of type II supernovae, that no certain type II supernovae have been observed in lenticular or elliptical galaxies, and that the relative frequency of type II supernovae increases with increasing luminosity of the parent galaxy.
