Results are reported for UBV photoelectric photometry of the radio source 3C 120 performed in the period from September 1974 to February 1976. It is found that the source was fainter in this period than in 1967 and that an absolute minimum occurred in February 1976. The source is separated into two components: a galaxy and a nucleus with a strong UV excess. It is shown that the mean luminosity gradient of the galaxy corresponds to that of an elliptical and that the flux and B-V color index of the nucleus vary. The results indicate that the variation of the nuclear continuum is well described between 330 and 1000 nm by the sum of two power-law terms, one with an index of -2.5 and the other with a variable dereddened index of 0.2 to 2. Emission mechanisms are considered.
