Photographic BV-photometry of about 350 stars in the central region of the globular cluster M5 is carried out. The luminosity function for a red giant branch up to V = 15.4 m was compared with that of the M5 peripheral regions; the behavior of these luminosity functions is shown to be similar. Data are presented which suggest that the star evolution rate on the red giant branch undergoes local deceleration and acceleration.
