The nature of the boundary layer interaction between an accretion disk and central star is investigated. Possible processes by which the star applies a torque on the inner disk are discussed, and simple arguments are used to assess how the parameters of the disk and star affect the nature and location of the interaction. Observational consequences for cataclysmic variables and T Tauri stars are discussed.
