In order to investigate whether a magnetic field line reconnection process can be operative in cosmic jets for in situ re-energization of synchrotron radiating electrons the author considers the Gold-Parker mechanism of coronal heating (originally devised for the sun) under the conditions of extragalactic jets. He estimates that the power dissipated by this process, for the parameter values of two of the most powerful radio galaxies (M87 and Cen A), amounts to some 1039÷1040erg/s. This fits the energetic requirements of the electrons for the radio part of the synchrotron spectrum, but is possibly not enough for its optical and X-ray branch.
