It has been suggested that the Sun may be a member of a binary star system. In this case, the barycentre of the (known) Solar System would be accelerated towards the companion object. Consideration of the binary pulsar PSR 1913+16's orbital motion gives an upper limit of |a| ⪉ 10-9m s-2 for the component of any Solar System acceleration in its direction.
