A 6 x 6 matrix method for transforming a catalog mean place from epoch
and equinox B 1950.0 on the FK4 system to epoch and equinox J2000.0 on
the FK5 system is described. A step-by-step comparison is made between
the matrix method and the classical spherical formulas.
