Effective collision strengths for all the fine-structure forbidden transitions within the 3p3 ground configuration of Cl(III) have been calculated in a 7-state close-coupling approximation including configuration interaction in the target representation. A comparison with earlier work shows the important changes brought about by the present elaborate atomic model. The new data should considerably affect astrophysical diagnostics, particularly in nebulae.
