From a study of the composition of Fe-Ni metal in primitive chondrites and its relation with that of the associated silicates, it was concluded that the concentrations of Cr, P, and Si in metal were established during chondrule formation. In addition, it was recently realized that graphite inclusions are not uncommon in the metal of type 3 ordinary chondrites, and are escepially abundant in the metal of Bishunpur (L3.1). This C may be the relic of the reducing agent, which has allowed the reduction of Cr, P, Si, and their dissolution in metal. We present more data supporting these hypotheses. We have plotted Cr concentration vs. Co concentration in metal grains of Bishunpur. Both of them should reflect the redox history of the metal. Cobalt is in solid solution in Fe-Ni, and usually rather constant from grain to grain within a chondrule. Chromium is in small chromite inclusions often heterogeneously distributed and thus more variable as measured with the electron microprobe. There is no obvious correlation between Cr and Co concentrations, which is not unexpected, since these depend not only on redox processes but on the initial Cr and Co contents of precursors and processes like sulfurization. However, some features do show up: Overall, there is a tendency for Cr concentration to increase when Co concentration decreases. This is consistent with Cr and Co concentrations having been for the most part established during the same redox events.
