The problem of calibrating the FGSs for astrometric work involves two complementary aspects; the plate scale and the optical distortions. The latter are dealt with in the Optical Field Angle Distortion cali- brations. The former are dealt with in three different calibration proposals depending on the scale-length desired. To complete the OFAD calibration effort the execution of this proposal is required to determine the plate scale in the large. It rests on a set of stars included in the ESA Astrometry satellite HIPPARCOS's observing list.
