This proposal defines a series of observations that will measure for the first time the wavelength offsets that occur for a target observed in the LSA, relative to the wavelengths that are assigned for SSA observations. The objective is to allow high resolution spectra to be obtained using the LSA, while achieving wavelength accuracy comparable to the SSA. The test uses the UV standard star Mu Columbae, with target acquisitions performed using mirror A1. Four important wavelength regions, 1210 (Ly alpha), 1240 (N V), 1400 (Si IV) and 1545 (C IV) are measured with the star in both the LSA and the SSA. Echelle A is used in this proposal. High S/N data will be achieved by use of the FP-SPLIT technique.
