We propose to photometrically monitor a young pre-main-sequence (PMS) star, which has been detected as an eclipsing binary by HIPPARCOS. A high-resolution spectrum taken by us in 2000 clearly shows strong lithium absorption, classifying it as a pre-main-sequence object (T Tauri star). If we are able to confirm the eclipses and to resolve the system as a double-lined spectroscopic binary (SB2) a direct determination of dynamical masses of both components would be possible. We are proposing photometric observations of the target in 4 consecutive nights at the CTIO 0.9 m telescope in order to reproduce the eclipses and to record the primary aswell as the secondary eclipse with high accuracy and a good phase coverage in several filters. We have been already awarded time at the ESO 1.5 m telescope at La Silla for spectroscopy of the object in order to solve the SB2 orbit. Accurate masses of T Tauri stars are of high importance for our understanding of the stellar evolution in the PMS phase. The mass is the most important input parameter for theoretical evolutionary models. Until now there are only very few T Tauri stars known with accurately determined masses, not enough for a decisive test of the different current PMS models. Our target is a promising candidate to be one of the first eclipsing SB2 T Tauri binaries, with at least one component mass well below sub-solar.
