Triple-star systems, especially those in which one star has very small mass, are examined. Observations that provide information about the physical nature of close systems, in particular, changes of the period of orbital revolution, are discussed. It is shown that the detection and study of these changes is best obtained by observations of the precise times of light minima in eclipsing systems. Examples of work on period changes caused by a third companion are given.
