Attention is given to an inaccuracy common to many investigations of Compton scattering problems, the calculation of the angle d Omega sub f of the direction of scattered photons. Exact analytical expressions are obtained for the scattering kernel and energy losses associated with the motion of electrons following interaction with photons. The obtained results differ significantly from the most widely used calculations, particularly in the description of an inverse Compton scattering regime.
