Photoelectric uvby and H-beta observations have been obtained for 15 stars in the field of the open cluster IC 4996. An average color excess of E(b-y) = 0.473 is estimated for six observed members of the cluster, in good agreement with previous results. A comparison between the beta-M(v) calibrations given by Crawford (1978) and by Eggen (1974) suggests that the first one takes better into account the evolutionary effects on the H-beta index. A true distance modulus of 11.43 and an age of 7.5 million years have been calculated.
