The electron temperature and the abundance of He+ within the Rosette nebula are determined from radio recombination line measurements on three positions in the H II region using the 100 m telescope at Effelsberg. The ratio N(He+)/N(H+) could be determined to 0.12±0.03. The averaged NLTE electron temperature of 5800±700K turned out to be only 1100K larger than the corresponding LTE temperature. The distribution of the spectral index across the nebula is obtained from continuum intensity maps at the frequencies 1410 and 4750 MHz, which have angular resolutions of 9arcmin.2 and 2arcmin.4, respectively. For the H II region a shell type density model is suggested. Mean electron densities of various shell models range from 5 to 15 cm-3. The observed continuum flux density corresponds to the UV luminosity of the O type stars embedded in the nebula.
