The Burst and Transient Source Experiment (BATSE) on the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory has recorded 1634 gamma-ray burst triggers between instrument activation in April 1991 and August 29, 1996. The galactic dipole moment of the distribution of burst directions is = -0.010 +/- 0.014, after correction for the anisotropy of the exposure. When combined with the observation of inhomogeneity (V/V_max = 0.33 +/- 0.01), the limit on the anisotropy of the burst source distribution places the most severe constraints yet on extended halo models. The predicted anisotropy and inhomogeneity of simple geometrical models will be described and compared to the data.
