The TopHat experiment will measure CMBR Anisotropy on angular scales from tens of degrees to 20 arcminutes using a balloon-borne, top-mounted, one meter telescope. The experiment is designed to cover a maximum range of spatial scales while minimizing susceptibility to systematic instrument errors. Two versions of the telescope are in development: one, having the traditional sweeping secondary having an three degree total throw and a servoed pointing system (the Pointer), and the second, with a fixed secondary, a constant elevation of 78 degrees and azimuth spin at 4 RPM (the Spinner). The Pointer is optimized for high signal-to-noise measurements of small areas of the sky while the Spinner, designed for LDB flights) maps a 48 degree diameter area centered on the South Celestial Pole. Each telescope is instrumented with a multi-channel bolometric receiver operating from 150 to 700 GHz.
