All previous Comptonization models, analytical or numerical, assume the the electronic density of the region where photons are Comptonized is uniform. Obviously this is not realistic. We study the Comptonization models in which electronic clouds have non-uniform density profiles. We show the effect of the density distribution on the photon energy spectra. Specifically, we show that the photon spectra resulting from Comptonization in a spherical cloud with radially decreasing density are softer than those from the uniform cloud with the same optical depth. We discuss the implication of this effect for the interpretation of observation data.
