The Astronomical Society of the Pacific (ASP) symposium "Astronomy Education: Current Developments, Future Coordination", held at the University of Maryland in June 1995 (Proceedings: ASP Conference Series, Volume 89), made many recommendations about how astronomy education could be enhanced through coordination and cooperation. These recommendations will be reviewed in this and other papers in this special session. In particular, I propose a follow-up to the workshop "An Education Initiative in Astronomy", held in Washington in 1990. Education Initiative II would bring together a small group of key people from all levels and facets of astronomy education, to draw up an action plan to lead astronomy education into the 21st century. See Mercury, Volume 25, Number 1, pages 34-36, for a vision of what might be accomplished.
