Unanswered questions in planetary science are examined, including meteorite origins, the evolution of solar systems, and the origin of life on earth. Also, questions concerning the nature, origins and lifetimes of planetary rings are raised. The role of impacts and collisions in the early history of the solar system and the possible type and amount of interstellar and planetary organic matter are discussed. Other topics include computer models of solar system evolution, the study of other planetary systems, and the search for extraterrestrial intelligence. It is argued that an overarching framework to investigate these questions is needed.
