Relativistic modeling of rotational motion of extended bodies represents one of the most complicated problems of Applied Relativity. The relativistic reference systems of IAU (2000) give a suitable theoretical framework for such a modeling. In this presentation problems that appear here will be summarized and the ways to overcome these problems will be discussed. Recent developments in the post-Newtonian theory of rigid Earth rotation will then be reported. While the modeling of rigid Earth rotation in the relativistic framework has become conceptually clear and the practical realization of this theory is close to its completion, the generalization to non-rigid Earth still requires considerable efforts. The experience of the relativistic Earth rotation theory can be directly used to model rotation of other celestial bodies, in particular, Moon (needed for LLR data), Mercury (needed to model the observations of BepiColombo) and Mars.
