Pulsars: Individual: Her X-1, X-Rays: Stars

The binary X-ray pulsar Her X-1 has been observed by CGRO-OSSE during its Main-On state in July 1994. The average pulse period is determined. Main-On pulse profiles in the 30-60keV range for successive binary orbits are compatible with a constant pulse width. A thin thermal bremsstrahlung spectrum is fitted to the phase average data, yielding kT=15(1)keV.
