We present here calculations which indicate that the incorporation of a phenomenological scheme of galaxy merging in faint galaxy models results in amplitudes of the faint galaxy angular two-point autocorrelation function which are in contradiction with those observed. This is unfortunate, as such a scheme of merging has been considered to be a strong candidate for enabling a flat ({OMEGA}_0_=1, λ_0_=0) universe model to remain simultaneously consistent with three other major observational constraints: the luminosity function of local galaxies, the faint galaxy number counts (23 <~ b_J_ <~ 28), and the faint galaxy redshift distributions (b_J_ <~ 24).
