We will present and review recent millimeter-wave observations with interferometers (and in particular with the Plateau de Bure interferometer) that stress the importance of high frequency resolution in the field of chemistry of diffuse interstellar clouds and of post main-sequence circumstellar envelopes. Future impact of new instruments such as the Atacama Large Millimeter and submillimeter Array will also be investigated.
