Results from a multi-institutional multi-faceted laboratory astrophysics program are presented. The program is carried out at the Livermore electron beam ion trap facility which is a mature spectroscopic source with unsurpassed controls and capabilities such as a Maxwellian plasma simulator and an unparalleled assortment of spectroscopic equipment including a full complement of grating and crystal spectrometers and a 6x6 microcalorimeter array. Recent results range from the calibration of x-ray diagnostics extensive line lists of L-shell ions the first laboratory simulation and fit of cometary x-ray emission spectra and the discovery of new and surprising spectral diagnostics. The measurements have also addressed and resolved various puzzles posed by recent satellite observations. An overview of these results and their importance for interpreting astrophysical spectra will be given.
This work was supported by NASA SARA and Planetary Atmospheres programs and performed under the auspices of the DOE by UC-LLNL under Contract W-7405-Eng-48.
