Similarities between classical astronomical navigation and inertial
navigation by electrostatic gyroscope (ESG) are developed. Attention is
given to the alignment problem and to sources of fundamental errors,
such as those attributable to accelerometers, of ESG inertial systems.
Cardan and strapdown systems and Kalman filtration are considered.
